SQUIRREL REMOVAL AND ATTIC RESTORATION – CAPE COD, MA

It Wasn’t Just An Attic Restoration; This Was More Like An Attic Resurrection…

Jim’s story shows you how to avoid expensive and dangerous problems before they start!

Poor Jim from Falmouth learned the hard way that…

  1. The longer you wait to deal with an animal problem, the bigger the problem gets.
  2. It’s never too late to call Gary’s!

It all started with a call from a homeowner who lives down the Cape in Woods Hole. He had a problem with squirrels – a big problem. The last straw for him came while he was sitting in his living room watching TV. He heard a noise, looked up, and saw a squirrel chewing his way from the attic right into the living room! Holes chewed by a squirrel from the attic.

We knew it would be bad, but we had no idea HOW bad, Until…

Squirrel Damage

After we removed the squirrels from inside the home (a few more had gotten in), we talked with Jim about a more permanent solution to his squirrel problem so that this wouldn’t happen again. A red flag shot up when he told us he hadn’t been up into his attic for several years. We’ve seen what squirrels can do to an attic if left unattended, and it ain’t pretty. This was going to be bad for Jim and we knew it. So let’s have a look, shall we? Before we even got up there…He led me to the overhead attic scuttle door. I saw the staining and right away I recognized what it was.

“Step aside, Jim.”

I turned my head, opened the hatch, and WHOOSH – A barrage of squirrel droppings cascaded down over my coat. Don’t you hate it when that happens?

It was like a stinkin’ 5-star squirrel resort up there!

Squirrel droppings

As I crawled up into the attic, I took one look around and it was obvious the squirrels have been using this attic for many years. All the blown insulation was matted down to just 2 inches, costing Jim a lot of money in energy bills. The attic floor was covered with squirrel poop, and the whole place smelled of urine in the worst way. Jim was shocked. Insulation doesn’t work when it is used as a bathroom instead.

Squirrel chewing wire

Speaking of being “shocked”, one of the little critters decided it would be a good idea to chew on some electrical wires. He chewed one live wire a little too much and that’s how we found him… still attached to the wire. Before he got zapped, he and the other squirrels exposed several wires, causing a very dangerous fire hazard situation. Squirrels chew on wires… this little guy picked the wrong wire. After he got zapped, he created a mini bio-hazard situation by being up in the hot attic for that long. Squirrels can be cute and cuddly, but this one almost cost Jim his home and his health.

Let the attic “resurrection” begin

We sat down with Jim and explained everything in detail. We discussed the situation in his attic and we offered solutions for all of the problem areas. He decided it was time to fix this problem NOW. He wanted to bring his attic “back from the dead” and reclaim his home. We got right to work.

A complete attic restoration, step-by-step

First and foremost we performed a complete squirrel exclusion to make sure this couldn’t happen again in the future.

Clean Up: Then we did a thorough clean-up, including removing the dead squirrel and getting all the old soiled and matted insulation out of there. Everything was properly disposed of.

Insect Treatment: Next, we treated for any insects that may have been left behind by our squirrel friends. Squirrels almost always have fleas, ticks, or mites and they bring them right into your home with them.

Disinfect/Deodorize/Fix Wiring: While the insulation was still out, the attic was completely disinfected and deodorized and the electrician fixed all the chewed up wiring. No more smell and no more fire hazard.

Reinstall Insulation: The final step was reinstalling the insulation back to its original R 30 rating. Having quality insulation like this will no doubt save Jim an unbelievable amount of money on his energy bills.

“It was like a brand-new place! No more smell, no more pests, no more fire hazards, biohazards, or insects, and no more wasted money on heating or air conditioning.”
